The Zaidi Doctrine
Allah Almighty said: ((And with truth We have sent it down, and with truth it has descended. And We have sent you as nothing but a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner )) (105) Is’ra. The religion of truth is one; anything other than it is not the truth. .
Allah, the Exalted, described His Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, by saying: ((He commands them for Al-Ma’ruf (right); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (wrong)..)) (157) Al-A’raf. That is: what is right according to their innate nature, and forbids them from what is wrong according to their innate nature.
The Zaydi school of thought is built upon strong foundations: First is the natural disposition of the mind, then the clear verses of the Holy Qur’an, and the authentic and established hadiths among Muslim sects—those on which they have unanimously agreed regarding their authenticity and transmission, or those whose continuous chain of transmission has been established among them. This is the foundation of their religion and their school of thought in matters of belief; there is no room in it for superstitions, extremism, or anything that the mind rejects.
As for the narrations of the Prophetic hadiths that do not meet the criteria we have mentioned, we cannot rely on them in matters of creed; for what is required in creed is certain knowledge, faith, and firm belief, and the hadiths that do not meet these criteria do not establish such certain knowledge.
This is our doctrine as Zaidis in our religion, and guidance comes from Allah.
