An Imām to whom journeys are undertaken, and an intended destination to which hopes are attached; he is sought by the far and the near, and every valley and place bears witness to his blessing. No sooner does he settle in a land except that its earth becomes fertile, its fruits are blessed, its goods become desired, its people become great, its rank is elevated, and its evil is cut off. And with the seekers of knowledge and the guides, he is the supreme exemplar, the loftiest father, and the most complete marjaʿ; he nourishes their souls with guidance, fills their hearts with love, revives their minds with knowledge, and clothes their selves with chastity. And he has comprehensive acceptance among the elite and the generality; his statement is a conclusive ruling that is not rejected, and his judgment is a ʿadl that cannot be annulled; he resolves dispute, and cuts off contention, and extinguishes the fire of quarrel by his standing and his rank, and by his wisdom and his knowledge. Thus all respect him in gatherings and assemblies, and the elders and the young revere him, and the notables and the individuals revere him; the Zaydiyyah and others exalt him, acknowledge his rank, accept his counsel, find reassurance in his consultation, and act upon his opinion.
