[Obsessive thoughts during prayer]

Question: What is the state of a legally responsible person who keeps up the five prayers, but when he enters the prayer, obsessive thoughts and inner talk take hold of him, so he leaves the prayer as he entered it, with nothing of Allah’s majesty and awe or fear having entered his heart—and thus are all his prayers As for the intention, he prays each prayer for Allah, driven by fear of Him ?

Answer (and Allah is the Patron of success): Such a prayer is valid if it fulfills the conditions and obligations; by performing it he discharges the command. However, its reward is deficient to the degree that humility (khushūʿ) and mindful remembrance are deficient. Perhaps he will be written the reward of his firm resolve to keep the prayers at their times, his intention to keep congregation in the mosque, and the reward of the preliminaries.
