Question
Question: May a man marry his noble daughter to someone of corrupt creed—whether his creed is deviant or otherwise?
Answer
Answer—with Allah’s help: That should not be done. In the ḥadīth: “If there comes to you one whose religion and character you are pleased with, then marry [your ward] to him …”
One of corrupt creed is not someone whose religion is acceptable. Allah, Exalted is He, said: “Impure women are for impure men, and impure men are for impure women; and pure women are for pure men, and pure men are for pure women.” [an-Nūr:26].
Accordingly, a guardian should only marry his ward to someone who matches her in religion and standing. This is the position of the majority of the scholars of the Ummah of Mohammad (May Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace) —early and later.
