Question: A man had previously divorced his wife twice, and finally he suspended the third divorce on the passing of two years. Now the two years are almost up and the spouses regret it. Is there a way out of this predicament?
Answer—and Allah is the One who grants success: The way out of the divorce predicament is imprisoning divorce (taḥbīs). Its form is that he says: “You are divorced just before my conditional divorce falls upon you.” If he says that, the occurrence of either of the two divorces is prevented.
