Question

Question: Is it permissible to borrow from the agricultural bank to build greenhouses for oneself and one’s family, knowing the bank takes interest?

Answer

Answer: It is related that “every loan that draws a benefit is usury (ribā)”. If the bank lends to the farmer and takes anything over principal, it is not permissible for the farmer to borrow and pay such increment.
If it is said, “Those charges cover the wages of the bank’s staff,”
We say: Banks, as a rule, take in more via interest than staff wages—though agricultural banks often charge less than others. Banks are, at base, commercial, and it is highly unlikely that the founders do not take interest.
