[Who Are Gog and Magog?]

Answer: Gog and Magog are two nations from among the nations of the earth, from the children of Adam. Their nature is evil and corruption, as mentioned in the Qur’an.
They live, as the Qur’an indicates, in the north of the earth, and the barrier is also in the north.
It is possible that the barrier has collapsed and been leveled, and that Gog and Magog have emerged and caused corruption. Perhaps they are the Tatars whose calamity encompassed nearly all the Muslims. And perhaps they are the Franks whose calamity also encompassed nearly all the lands of the Muslims.
If you say: He, the Exalted, said: “Until when Gog and Magog are opened and they surge from every elevation, and the true promise draws near…” [Al-Anbiyāʾ]—which indicates that their emergence is among the signs of the Hour.
We say: Their emergence is among the signs of the Hour, and the time of the signs of the Hour extends from the sending of the Prophet (May Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace) until its establishment, as evidenced by his saying: “I and the Hour have been sent like these two.”
