[The Ruling on a Drug Trader’s Wealth if He Repents]

Question: About a man who used to trade in narcotics, then he heard the exhortations of the preachers, so he repented from that and returned to Allah Most High. He asked about the monies in his possession that he had acquired through that avenue—what is their ruling?

The answer—and by Allah’s enabling: If he repents to Allah Most High and is truthful in his repentance and return to Allah Most High, then what is in his hand of those unlawful gains becomes lawful for him.
The proof for that is what has come regarding the usury-eaters in His saying, Most High: “So whoever has received an admonition from his Lord and desists may have what is past, and his affair rests with Allah …” [Al-Baqarah:275].
