[The Cause That Drives People to Hostility Toward the People of Truth]

Question: What is the cause that drives people to hostility toward the people of truth and to striving to bring upon them the most severe hardships?

The answer—and by Allah is success—is that truth and falsehood are two mutually exclusive qualities that cannot come together in one thing: when truth exists in a thing, falsehood departs; and when falsehood occurs, truth is removed. The people of truth and the people of falsehood are mutually repelled, following from the mutual repulsion of truth and falsehood. The people of truth dislike the people of falsehood, and the people of falsehood dislike the people of truth. The motive, then, is dislike: it is what drives the people of falsehood to hostilely oppose the people of truth and to bring upon them the most severe hardships. For this reason Allah, the Exalted, said: "And the Jews will never be pleased with you, nor the Christians, until you follow their religion." [Al-Baqarah:120]
