Question: Is the hair of a female child shaved on the seventh day just as the hair of a male child is shaved, and its weight in gold or silver given in charity, or not?

Answer – and Allah is the One who grants success: The apparent wording of the scholars of the madhhab is that male and female are the same with regard to the legislation of shaving their heads on the seventh day.
What appears to me is that the wisdom in shaving the hair of the newborn on the seventh day is cleanliness, then the strengthening of hair growth; and this wisdom is required for both sexes.
The evidence for what we have mentioned as the underlying reason is what has been narrated from the Prophet, May Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace, in this chapter: “Remove the harm from him.”
