Question: May the waqf-guardian exchange the mosque’s field, taking another field in its place for the sake of benefit?

Answer—and Allah is the One who grants success: If the benefit returns to the mosque—such as proximity to water, or proximity to the mosque’s guardian so he can preserve it more easily, and the like—then there is no objection. It is narrated that the Companions moved the mosque itself from one location to another for the sake of preserving it, as related in al-Baḥr and its derivation.
