Question: Does the permission of the most entitled for another to advance preserve the virtue of the congregation or not?
Answer: Based on what we have stated—that imamate is the right of the most entitled, which he may take up or forgo—this does not detract from the virtue of the congregation, on condition that the one authorized to advance be the most entitled among the remaining; for the virtue is only attained by following the guidance of the Messenger—may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace.
