Question: A man owed Saudi riyals and repaid in Yemeni rials in installments. Long afterward the creditor asked to settle accounts. The debtor says, “I repaid you with Yemeni currency I delivered.” What is due now?

Answer—and Allah grants success: The closest to truth and justice is that the Yemeni payments should be valued at the exchange rate on each day of delivery. That is because he did not hand it over except in exchange for the debt, and the creditor did not take it except on that condition. This aligns with common mercantile practice.
