Question: Did the Qur’an descend to the lowest heaven all at once? And does saying that lead to affirming the doctrine of the Jabrites and the Qadarites, because the verses are “ready” before the acts? While there is a difference between the sending down of the ruling and Allah’s prior knowledge, as I believe.
Answer: The Qur’an was sent down as a whole to the lowest heaven, then it was sent down in parts to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace).
- And in the sending down of the Qur’an as a whole to the lowest heaven there is nothing that indicates the doctrine of the Jabrites and the Qadarites; for it is merely information about what is in Allah’s knowledge, and it contains nothing in addition to what they themselves say about Allah’s knowledge. There is no difference between Allah’s knowledge, exalted is He, and the “translation” (expression) of that knowledge in the verses of the Qur’an.
