Question: If the family of the deceased are openly sinful, is it permissible to offer them condolences?
Answer: The school’s position is that it is permissible, as in al-Azhār and its commentary.
Then it was said in al Sharah: Sayyid Yaḥyā said it should not be done except for an interest, or out of precaution (taqiyyah), or reciprocation, or neighborhood.
