[Conditional Divorce upon a Doable Act 2]

Question: A man said to his wife: “If you do not go to the farm for such-and-such need, you are divorced.” The wife went to the farm but did not find that item, after thoroughly searching for it, then returned to her husband. What is the ruling?

Answer—and Allah is the One who grants success: The wife has done what the condition entailed—she went to the farm for that need; therefore the conditional divorce does not fall upon her.
And had the husband said to her: “If you do not go to the farm and bring me that item, you are divorced,” then she went to the farm and did not find that item, returning to her husband—she would not be divorced; for divorce here is suspended upon the combination of two things. She performed one of them and did not perform the other; divorce would not fall upon her unless she failed to do both.
