Question: An employee in a pharmacy receives a gift from a company’s distributor who says, “This is a gift for you from the company,” with the aim of encouraging the employee to give care to selling its products. Is this gift for the employee or for the owner of the pharmacy?

Answer: What appears—based on what the questioner mentioned—is that the gift is for the employee, not the owner of the pharmacy. The company gave what it gave to secure a benefit particular to the company, and this benefit does not conflict with the work for which the pharmacy owner hired the employee, nor does it harm or diminish that work. Indeed, the benefit intended by the company is, at the same time, a benefit for the owner of the pharmacy.
