[A Physician’s Knowledge of the Fetus’s Sex Does Not Contradict the Verse: “Indeed, with Allah Is Knowledge of the Hour…”]

Question: It is known that Allah, the Exalted, is unique in the knowledge contained in this verse: “Indeed, with Allah is knowledge of the Hour, and He sends down the rain, and He knows what is in the wombs.” [Luqman:34]. The evidence for that is this verse. Yet in modern medicine the physician knows the sex of the fetus—male or female—so what is the way out?

The answer: Modern medicine has reached knowing whether the fetus is male or female, and that is when its formation has taken place in its mother’s womb and its organs have been completed; they do not know its sex before it is formed.
As for the Creator, the All-Knowing, He knows the type of what is in the womb the moment the drop settles in the womb: He knows whether it is male or female, and He knows the details of its creation and its characteristics, and so on.
Human knowledge of what is in the wombs only occurs when the fetus’s creation becomes complete, whereas Allah, the Exalted, knows that in the earliest stages of the fetus’s creation, when it was a drop, then a clinging clot, then so on. By what we have mentioned, the problem is resolved, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
