Among his poetry (Peace be Upon Him) is his saying:
They say: Zayd does not purify his wealth,
But how can one purify wealth who gives it away?
When the year has passed, there was not in our abodes<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Of wealth anything but its trace and its virtues.
And he (Peace be Upon Him) said:
The sword knows my resolve when it surges forth,
And the spear bears witness to me\u2014by Allah, I have a burden.
Indeed, we hope for what our forebears once hoped for,
If destiny should lend its aid.
And he (Peace be Upon Him) has verses addressing and counseling his
son Yah ya :
My son\u2014if I should perish\u2014then do not be
Stained in deeds while whitening garments.
Beware the company of the ignoble, for indeed
The blemish of the noble is the baseness of companions.
I have tested people and then known them,
And known what they attained of means.
So kinship does not bring near one who severs,
While affection is the nearest of lineages.
And he (Peace be Upon Him) has verses in elegy for his brother al-Ba
qir, Muh ammad ibn \u02bfAl\u012b (Peace be Upon Him):
O Death\u2014you have stripped me of an intimate,
You took him forward and left me behind.
Oh! my regret\u2014we shall never meet,
